Merry Tom Vineyard

Merry Tom Vineyard

Merry Tom is a Northamptonshire vineyard on ironstone soil near Brixworth, named after the historic horse said to have once galloped across its fields.

Merry Tom takes its name from a horse, the noble steed of the 5th Earl Spencer, said to have galloped across these Brixworth fields long before the vines went in. A weathered stone monument believed to honour the horse stands at the vineyard's entrance, and an old stone horse-trough, once a resting point for passing horses, still sits nearby, half hidden in the undergrowth.
