Monument House Vineyard
Monument House Vineyard
A vineyard and winery on the chalk escarpment of the north Lincolnshire Wolds, first planted at Somerby in 2006 and making white, red and sparkling wines.
Somerby Vineyards began in a neighbour's walled garden. The idea came on a driving holiday along the Rhine, from a room in a family-run hotel that looked out over a vineyard, and from talk about how much that area resembled Somerby. Back home, a neighbour offered some land inside his walled garden. In 2006 an acre of it was fenced off and planted with 150 vines, 100 of them Regent and 50 Phoenix. The planting later grew 60 times over, to more than 12,000 vines.
Cellar door tastings
The winery's own site, whose newest posts date from May 2017, says visits are by appointment and describes group tours and tastings around the vineyard and winery from Easter to mid September. It describes no walk-in tasting, and said in 2017 that no wine was sold at the winery.
