Painters Vineyard

Painters Vineyard

Stonyfield is a one-acre, family-run vineyard in Blisworth, Northamptonshire, making traditional-method sparkling wine and open to visitors on advertised open days through the year.

Stonyfield sits on a single field shaped by the Grand Union Canal: in 1793, engineers cutting what was then the longest tunnel in England spread its ironstone spoil across the ground above the tunnel entrance, leaving a south-facing bed of well-drained shingle. Their grandfather tried ploughing it, then kept pigs there instead, and their parents grew wild flowers for seed. Michael, Belinda's husband, always said the field should go to vines, and when he died in 2010, planting it became his memorial.

Cellar door tastings

By appointment only

Open days run roughly monthly, with wine tastings and a vineyard tour and no need to book. Private group tours and tastings can be arranged outside those dates, and the garden hosts occasional wine-and-cheese afternoons in summer.
