Alder Vineyard

A family vineyard and winery on the edge of Dartmoor near Okehampton, with guided vineyard tours and a kitchen / bar serving breakfast and lunch.

The family behind Alder Vineyard has been based at Alder Farm, on the edge of Dartmoor, for generations, and has not properly farmed it since the 1960s. That was when the old sheds were converted into the home of the grandparents' surf brand, Alder Sportswear. The vineyard came out of the same spirit of diversification. The family wanted to grow something unusual on its piece of Devon, and planted vines with the aim simply of selling the crop each year.

Cellar door tastings

The guided tasting comes at the end of a booked tour: a walk in the vines, then a session in the winery where Tom Hodgetts guides a tasting of the estate-grown wines. Without a tour, the kitchen + bar serves local wine by the glass.
