Buzzard's Valley Vineyard

Buzzard's Valley Vineyard

A family-run nature reserve near Tamworth, with a vineyard beside its free woodland trail, fishing lakes, a café and a shop selling the estate's own wine.

The Jones family has farmed on the Canwell Estate, at the edge of Birmingham, since 1962. Ivan Jones and his wife Pat began with arable and dairy farming, and when foot and mouth ended the dairy they grew potatoes, cabbages and onions. Cutting the allium flowers off the onions to sell at a local show led the family into floristry, and then into a wholesale business, Excelsior Dried Flowers. Ivan later planned three more projects: 4,000 poplar trees, six lakes dug for leisure and a vineyard. Most of that work was done after he died in 2007. The vineyard was the one he saw finished, and he tasted its wine.
