Harvest party 2026
19:00–23:00

Hambledon is England's oldest commercial vineyard, planted on South Downs chalk in 1952 and now home to a restaurant listed in the Michelin Guide and a cellar door shop curated by a Master of Wine.
Hambledon began in the summer of 1951, when Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones looked out from the dining-room window at Mill Down House and, at his stepson's suggestion, considered planting the field below with vines. Advised by friends at the Champagne house Pol Roger, he planted a number of grape varieties in 1952, on the chalky slope beneath the house, and released the first commercial range of English wine in 1955. The vines now cover more than 200 acres across several sites around the village, rooted in the same Newhaven chalk — laid down on the Paris Basin seabed some 65 million years ago — that underpins many of the best vineyards in Champagne's Côtes des Blancs.
