Leonardslee Family Vineyards
Leonardslee is a Sussex sparkling wine estate planted in 2017 on a former golf course at Mannings Heath, with walk-in cellar-door tastings, a hotel and a restaurant among the vines.
Named South West Trophy at the WineGB Awards 2025.
Leonardslee's vines grow on what was the Kingfisher course at Mannings Heath, part of the wider Leonardslee estate the Streeter family bought in 2016 with a plan to build a South African-style wine destination in Sussex. The first vines went into a fairway in 2017, and the ground still gives up golf balls: 'we collected them in baskets, but soon gave up — there were too many,' winemaker Johann Fourie recalls, of soil more used to golfers than vines.
The estate is signposted off the A281 between Horsham and Cowfold. Horsham station is around ten minutes away by taxi, with direct trains from London Victoria, London Bridge and Gatwick Airport. Book a taxi ahead, since there is no rank at the station. Gatwick is about thirty minutes by car, Heathrow around ninety minutes.
