Penn Croft is the vineyard and own label of Itasca Wines, a contract winery at Crondall in Hampshire, with a café and wine tasting room at its cellar door.
Penn Croft is the label Itasca Wines makes its own wine under, at the winery it built at Penn Croft Farm, at Crondall on the Surrey and Hampshire border. The first vines went in on the farm in 2018, and the winery followed, opening in September 2020 after eight months of building. It began with two rusty barns. Penn Croft wine comes from those 2018 vines and from Jenkyn’s Place, a vineyard planted in 2006 that Itasca has leased since 2021. Itasca first planned to make only Penn Croft at Crondall. It became a contract winery instead, making wine for vineyards with no winery of their own, with Ben Smith leading the winemaking.
Cellar door tastings
The cellar door is a café and wine tasting room, with a wood stove burner inside and heated outdoor seating with blankets. Vineyard and winery tours are booked and can be combined with a visit. Wine tasting evenings are held there. The site does not describe the tasting itself.
