Polgoon Vineyard

Polgoon Vineyard

Polgoon is a vineyard and orchard above Mount's Bay near Penzance, making Cornish wine, cider and juice.

John and Kim Coulson, previously fish merchants in Newlyn, bought Polgoon in 2002: ten years derelict, and a flower farm before that. They planted 3,500 vines in 2004, and John taught himself winemaking from books and other producers' advice. The first vintage, in 2006, won the Best Still Rosé Trophy at the UKVA awards. The following year's harvest failed so badly that the Coulsons turned to their orchard as a backup, and cider has been the larger part of the business by volume ever since.
