A fruit farm in the New Forest growing its vines under tunnels, for still wines that include a Gewürztraminer and an orange Bacchus.
The B58 Winery grows its vines in tunnels, in coir, using the method its owner Sandy Booth brought from his soft fruit business, where strawberries and asparagus are grown under the same kind of cover. The coir is reused and enriched with microbiology to help it hold water and nutrients. Under the tunnels the grapes need fewer mildew sprays than vines grown outdoors, and weeds are pulled by hand rather than treated with herbicide. The fields on the New Forest farm are bordered by hedgerows and wildflower verges.
Cellar door tastings
The only visiting the site describes is a ticketed experience day, with a guided vineyard tour, a talk by the founder and a tasting of three wines. Walk-in tastings are not available. Wines are bought direct by email or through stockists.
