Tilsmore Wines
Tilsmore Wines
Tilsmore is a family-run sparkling wine estate in Mayfield in the Sussex Weald, with vineyard tours and tastings led by the family who grow the grapes.
Tilsmore takes its name from the stream that runs through the estate and on into the River Rother, in the parish of Mayfield. The ground is a mix of sandstone and clay heavy with iron, the ore that once fed the Wealden iron industry, and the estate still holds traces of a medieval bloomery. The vines grow on a south-west facing slope in sandy clay loam, sheltered on three sides by ancient woodland.
Cellar door tastings
Tastings come with a vineyard tour on selected Saturdays, walking the vines and led by the family who live on the estate. Tours are booked in advance, and the site describes no walk-in tasting. Sparkling wine is also poured on the estate's National Garden Scheme open days.
