Wildwood Vineyard

Wildwood Vineyard

By an ancient wood outside Eridge in East Sussex, Wildwood names its wines for the woodland's own legends and wildlife, from Bishop Odo Bacchus to a Thieving Badger red.

Wildwood takes its name from the shaw of ancient woodland it manages alongside the vines — oak and ash over hazel coppice, with a stream running through that is said to hold tiny trout washed down from the lake at nearby Eridge, and roe deer and badgers sharing the wood with barn owls and buzzards. Local legend holds that William the Conqueror's half-brother, Bishop Odo, once hunted through these same woods.
