Winklestone Vineyard

Winklestone Vineyard

Winklestone is a small, certified-organic vineyard the Dewhurst family planted in a paddock in Ashdown Forest in 2020, named for the fossil-shell stone of the forest itself.

Winklestone takes its name from Sussex Marble, a local stone seam full of fossilised winkle shells that has traditionally gone into churches across the county — the Dewhurst family, who have lived in Fairwarp for more than twenty years, borrowed it for the vineyard they planted in a paddock next to their home in 2020, in the heart of Ashdown Forest. The vineyard is certified organic, worked without pesticides or herbicides on a zero-till system that leaves the soil between the rows undisturbed.
