Avalon is an organic vineyard near Glastonbury, making wine, cider, mead and liqueurs since 1981.
Avalon has been organic since it began: no sprays or man-made fertiliser, weeds controlled by mulching and hand-weeding, and much of the winery's production now powered by solar panels installed in 2011. Hugh and Hilary Tripp started the vineyard on the site of a historic vineyard near Glastonbury in 1981, with half an acre of vines. The Soil Association certifies the fruit growing and winemaking, and gave Hugh Tripp its Organic Pioneer award, presented by Monty Don, for holding an organic licence for more than 25 years.
Tastings are free and self-guided, at the farm shop. Guided tours run separately, by prior arrangement.

From the A37, turn off at the crossroads at the foot of Wraxall Hill, opposite the Queen's Arms pub. After a mile and a half, do not turn into East Pennard village — signs mark the turning up the drove instead, a rough track with the vineyard at its end.
