Chet Valley Vineyard

Chet Valley Vineyard

Chet Valley Vineyard is a family-run vineyard and winery in Bergh Apton, Norfolk, making sustainably-farmed wines named after the birds on its own land.

Chet Valley Vineyard's soil was enriched by a stable of horses once kept by Fred Hemmant on land in Bergh Apton, South Norfolk — land his great-nephew John later inherited and, with his wife Bridget, planted with vines that now root down through sandy loam, gravel and pure sand to a boulder-clay layer beneath. The vineyard's winemaking motto, 'bold but faithful', comes from further back in the Hemmant family's history: an ancestor, William Hemmant, was responsible for establishing the coat of arms of Queensland, whose motto it is.
