Dryhill

Dryhill

A vineyard on limestone terraces cut by the Romans, just outside Cheltenham, making vintage sparkling wine, with vineyard tours and tastings on set dates.

Dryhill's vines grow on limestone terraces cut by the Romans, in a fold on the side of the Cotswold escarpment at around 130 metres above sea level. The land formed part of a Roman 'Villa Rustica', an agricultural villa, and a Roman coin from the period of Constantine I was found there in March 2023. The vines started life in a small nursery in the Champagne region and were planted by hand on the lowest of the three terraces. The ground is generally too steep for conventional machinery, and so most of the work is done by hand.

Tasting comes at the end of an escorted tour of the vineyard, with sparkling and still wines served alongside delicacies from the Cotswolds. Group tours and tastings run on set dates, and groups of more than eight can arrange a private tour. The site describes no walk-in tasting.
