Woodchester Valley Vineyard
Woodchester Valley is a single-estate Cotswold vineyard pressing only its own grapes, on ground recorded under vine in the Domesday Book of 1086.
Fiona and Niall Shiner returned to Britain after 18 years in Hong Kong to take on Niall's parents' property at Amberley, and Fiona planted the vineyard's first acre in 2007 after her mother-in-law suggested the Romans could have grown vines there. A former farm building became a winery and press house in 2016, when winemaker Jeremy Mount arrived; a third site, Stonehouse, followed, bringing the planted area to 58 acres, and the estate presses only its own fruit.
The cellar door is a shop just down the hill from the vineyard, at a separate site from its tasting room. Visitors can drop in to sample the wines or take a tutored flight, and calling ahead is recommended. Sunday tastings are booked, other days by phone. Vineyard visits are pre-booked tours only.
Sunday Tastings in the Cellar Door Shop
The cellar-door shop is on the A46. The vineyard, tasting room and stays are at a separate site, and directions to it are sent by email once a booking is confirmed.
