Dunesforde Vineyard
Dunesforde is a vineyard in North Yorkshire, planted in 2016 by the Townsend family and named after the nearby village's entry in the Domesday Book.
Named Best Single Varietal White at the WineGB Awards 2024.
A few hundred yards from the Roman road that once ran between York and Aldborough, Dunesforde takes its name from the nearby village of Dunsforth's own entry in the Domesday Book. The Townsend family planted the vineyard here in 2016, choosing the site for its slope, which helps drain frost away, and its shelter, which the family say makes it a degree or two warmer than the surroundings.
Wine can be tasted at the cellar door in the shop, walk-in, through the main season. A more in-depth tutored tasting with the Head of Wine, paired with local food, is arranged separately by phone or email, for a minimum of six people.
The vineyard is six miles from the A1M. If the gates are shut on arrival, buzz the intercom to be let in; a what3words address (grownup.hothouse.chef) pinpoints the entrance precisely.
