Quoins Organic Vineyard

Quoins Organic Vineyard

An organic and biodynamic vineyard near Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire, among fruit and nut trees, visited on group tours. The tours walk the vines and orchards before a tasting.

The vines at Quoins Organic Vineyard share their ground with more than a hundred fruit, nut and forest trees. Alan Chubb, who had worked around the world advising growers of tree crops such as coffee and oranges, bought a three-acre corner of a ploughed field near Bradford on Avon in 2002. That winter he planted three grape varieties chosen for disease resistance, two of them, Orion and Rondo, then new varieties from German breeding. His wife, Jane Laurie, planted fruit and nut trees and a small woodland copse around the edges. Madeleine Angevine is on the west side of the vineyard, Rondo in the middle and Orion in the east.

Getting there

From the A363 just outside Bradford on Avon, the turning is the lane opposite Cumberwell golf course. A right at the crossroads, past the old wheelwright's pond, leads to the vineyard on the right. A large bus cannot manage the final lane, though minibuses can. On foot, lanes and footpaths reach it from Bradford on Avon in 30–40 minutes, Winsley in 30 and Avoncliff, a request stop on the railway, in 45. The 265 bus stops at Winsley, which avoids the walk up the hill from Bradford.
