The Atlantic Vineyard

The Atlantic Vineyard

A family-run vineyard on the outskirts of Newquay growing fungus-resistant hybrid vines, with spring-fed ponds, a woodland trail and founder-led tours.

The Atlantic Vineyard grows only hybrid vines. The 14 varieties planted in May 2022, among them Divico, Solaris and Muscaris, are crossings of European wine grapes with American wild vines, grown in Europe for their hardiness and natural resistance to fungal attack and rot. Sourcing them and importing them from Germany and Italy took almost a year. The family calls them Earth-Friendly Vines, and the estate says they need little to no treatment with chemical fungicidal sprays, and that they suit cool-climate growing in Cornwall.

Getting there

The vineyard is on the road between Colan and Trewassick, with a sign at its gates. From the A392, turn at Mountjoy for Bosoughan and Colan, go left at the junction and past Colan Church, and the entrance is about half a mile further on the left. From the A3059, follow the sign for Colan for 1.2 miles and keep right rather than heading for Porth. National Cycle Network Route 32 passes the vineyard, and the bus stop at the Bosoughan and Colan turning on the A392 is a 1.7-mile walk away.
