The Rutland Vineyard
The Rutland Vineyard
The Rutland Vineyard is a vineyard outside Ketton with a tasting barn pouring its own still and sparkling wines alongside cake and local cheese, and a nature trail around the vines.
The Rutland Vineyard calls itself the dinosaur vineyard, and the animal in its logo is a Cetiosaurus. The Rutland dinosaur was found in 1970, two miles up the Welland Valley. The vines were planted in 2021 on a single south-facing site, on a narrow ridge between the rivers Welland and Chater, 70m above sea level. They grow in limestone-rich Blisworth soils formed in the mid Jurassic period.
Cellar door tastings
Visitors walk in to the tasting barn, where the vineyard's own wines are poured by the glass and a taster can be had before buying a bottle. The guided vineyard tours are ticketed, and the vineyard closes to other guests while they run.
