Weyborne Estate
A traditional-method sparkling wine estate on Blackdown in West Sussex, where the River Wey rises, with private events held around the vineyard.
The River Wey rises within The Weyborne Estate, where spring water comes up from an aquifer at the northern end of the grounds and runs through the gardens and the vineyard. The manor was built by the Yaldwyn family in 1640, and the estate says King Edward VII, George Bernard Shaw and Alfred, Lord Tennyson all drank from the spring. A Bathing House from the 1800s stands at the source, once used by swimmers and by Tennyson himself.
Private events are arranged through the estate's enquiry form and held at the Dovecote, the Bathing House or the viewing platform. A polo training day ends with a wine tasting and a barbecue. Walk-in tastings are not offered on the site.
Signs for Lurgashall Winery guide each route the estate gives to Quell Lane, which leads into Fernden Lane. Signs for Weyborne Estate appear after the signage for Blackdown Park on the left. The estate's What3Words address is Giggle.Export.Purse.
