Woodvalley is a small Essex vineyard planted from scratch in 2022 by four friends with no farming background, on land whose owner's father bought it in 1950 hoping to help revive English wine.
Woodvalley began in 2018 as a conversation between four friends with no farming background and the owner of a Billericay farm, then 78, whose own father had bought the land in 1950 hoping to help revive English winemaking after the Second World War. The four planted the first 400 vines themselves by hand in 2022 — 200 Chardonnay and 200 Pinot Noir — learning to plant, train and care for them from books and online videos.
Cellar door open for walk-ins during opening hours, with times outside this available by calling the vineyard.
