Longdown Vineyard

Longdown Vineyard

A Hampshire family grower making traditional method sparkling wine from an older vineyard at Bishops Waltham and a 2026 planting in Twyford.

Longdown Vineyard grows on two sites in Hampshire, and the estate describes its vines as a blend of the old and the new. At Northbrook, on the outskirts of Bishops Waltham next to the origin of the River Itchen, Longdown looks after the vines of a vineyard established in 1988 and shares the harvest. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grow there alongside Bacchus. The Twyford vineyard went into chalk and flint in April 2026. Beside the traditional sparkling varieties it carries Chasselas from Geneva and Cabaret Noir, two grapes the estate says are seldom found in the UK.

Visits to the cellar door at the Twyford vineyard are arranged by phone, and walk-in tastings are not available. The site does not describe a tasting, and it lists vineyard tours and tastings among its plans.

Address

Longdown Vineyard, Watley Lane, Winchester, SO21 1QX

Getting there

The vineyard is 150m up Watley Lane, and sat-navs often send drivers further up the lane than needed, so the sign on the right-hand side is the one to watch for. The lane is single track and used by pedestrians and horse riders. Love Lane gives no vehicle access to the vineyard. Buses from Winchester stop in the centre of Twyford, a 20-minute walk away, and the Monarch's Way footpath runs from Winchester to the vineyard.
