Simpsons Wine Estate
A Kent wine estate in the Elham Valley, making still and sparkling wine from its own vineyards, with guided tastings in a room overlooking the winery.
Simpsons' Wine Estate names its Roman Road and Railway Hill vineyards for the routes that crossed the ground before them. Roman Road was planted in 2014 with Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, alongside the route the Romans first marched when they invaded England in AD 43. Railway Hill followed in 2016 and 2017, on the southern slopes of the village, with the same three grapes. The Canterbury to Folkestone light railway passed through that site in the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th.
Tastings are guided and held in the Glass House Tasting Room, which overlooks the winery and is up two flights of stairs. Walk-in tastings are not offered, and every visit is booked ahead. A tasting can be arranged on the ground floor. Wine can be bought at the cellar door in office hours.
