Burger Night

A Somerset vineyard first planted in 1974, with a tasting space and wine bar looking over the vines, and cottages and shepherd's huts on the estate.
In the 1980s two opera singers took over the running of Wraxall. Astra Blair, a soprano and an agent for opera singers, and her husband Raimund Herincx added to vines first planted in 1974, and their additions included a few Chardonnay that Raimund smuggled back from France hidden in socks. Astra took her sales skills into wine, and Wraxall wine was served in first class on British Rail GWR and as a special with cream teas at the Waldorf Hotel in London. After the couple sold it the vineyard fell into disrepair, until new owners brought it back in 2007.
Self-guided tastings of four wines with local cheese need no booking at The View@Wraxall, with tasting notes to read. Guided tastings, led by one of the team, and vineyard tours are booked ahead. In winter, tastings move into the wine cellar or a heated stretch tent.

Guided Wine Tasting
The vineyard is in the hamlet of Wraxall, just off the A37 south of Shepton Mallet. It is on a steep hill with a gravel drive, and the estate advises trainers or walking shoes for a vineyard tour. Visitors arriving by train are asked to pre-book a taxi, as they can be hard to find at short notice. There is no coach parking area, so a coach visit is arranged in advance.
