Wine country within sight of the M25.
There is a particular pleasure in finding a vineyard inside the M25 orbit. The Chilterns — chalk, beech, kite-haunted — hold a quiet line of estates barely an hour from central London, with cellar doors that genuinely welcome walk-ins.
The region shares its geology with Champagne and the South Downs but sits further inland; the wines tend slightly leaner, the styles more eclectic. Several estates here are still finding their voice.
Pair a tasting with a Chiltern walk — the Ridgeway runs through several of these vineyards. Bring boots.
